    Airguning in Puerto Rico

I'm trying this out because there is little info on the sport of airguns in Puerto Rico.  Puerto Rico is a commonwealth of the U.S. located in the Caribbean.  Although small we have 3.5 million inhabitants.  Airguning is a sport that until recently did not have a great following.  In 2000 the new weapon laws came into effect that took all but a few restrictions on airgun.  Because of the strict gun laws on the island, airguns became a viable way to practice shooting in you back yard for a fraction of the cost.  Let’s jump to 2005-2006, when a group of avid shooters decided to start practicing the sport of Field Target.  Still in its infancy the Puerto Rico Field target Association is trying to promote the sport and hopefully take it to a national level here on the island.  We have our fist competition of 2007 on the 21st of January at the El Naranjal target range in Aguada PR.  I'll keep you posted on the outcome and the progress of this sport here on our beautiful Island.

Is it legal to purchase an airgun abroad and bring it with you to PR? Most places won't even ship airguns to PR... Feedback will be appreciated.

    Thanks

Good to see more airgunning information sources. Especially good to see it in English. I use Babelfish to translate Spanish to English for the PRFTA forum, and it does not do a very good job. Many words or phrases just do not translate well from Spanish to English and many messagess leave me guessing. Good luck with the blog.
To keep track of our small airguning community here in SW Florida you can visit our local gun club web site and see our match results. As match director, I try to mix up the formats of the matches and everyone seems to enjoy the variety. www.DeSotoGunClub.org will open the web site.  Click on match info and scores, and then to our airgun pages. Links to our 2 small airgun clubs here in Florida can be found on my web site www.FieldTargets.com.  Go to the "contact us" page and click on the link to Tampa Bay airgunners (TBA) or De Soto airgunners (DSA).
Thanks for the kind words about my targets. I would not be overly concerned about following AAFTA power levels unless you were going to host a major AAFTA regulated match. I think it is more important to run things the way your shooters wish than to follow another's rules. If you shoot for fun, throw the rule book out and just enjoy yourself. You may wish to hold a special "AAFTA challenge" match and adhere to AAFTA rules in conjuntion with an "anything goes" style match. This should accomodate anyone with an airgun wishing to shoot and have fun.
